The Cultural Revolution 2.0

Writer's picture: Virgil LassiterVirgil Lassiter

I came across the following reference to Communist China. I had known about the Cultural Revolution but did not know the platform on which it was built.

In 1966, Mao Zedong launched his “Cultural Revolution.” He decided that Red China’s greatest enemy was tradition. He made war on what he called “The Four Olds.” These consisted of old ideas, old customs, old culture, and old habits.

Let’s take these one at a time

Old Ideas….. Motherhood and apple pie may be a bit nostalgic on this writer’s part but the point is that family and home was the foundation of everything American stood for. No longer in vogue. Listen to the rhetoric of today and you will not find any reference to family and home. What you do hear is a constant rant of victim-hood and demands for outrageous capitulations across every level of government particularly aimed at law enforcement.

Old Customs.. Honoring the past, standing for the American anthem and the pledge are on the verge of being toss on the scrap heap of our society. History is under full fledged attack with images, statues and even speech that are labeled as racist and offensive being torn down. The rule of law is being bent under mob pressure to lower standards, grant exceptions based on race alone, demonize police officers in a wholesale manner.

Old Culture….. Respect and compassion for others. No longer are you judged by your character, the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, but merely the color of your skin. Race today comes under the banner of Black Lives Matter. BLM is a real organization but is also the mantra of the thousands of protesters – black and white. It seeks to dismantle all law enforcement and force the creation of something without any real power to maintain the peace. Heavy handed and erratic BLM supports the resulting riots and looting that were in response to the death of George Floyd.

Old Habits…… Bipartisan legislation conducted by statesmen concerned more with important issues than their party platform are rare. Comprise made great advances happen over the last two hundred plus years of the great American experiment. So much focus is on elections that the levels of pandering to agenda activists has reached a fever pitch. Witness the photo op of distinguished members of Congress kneeling adorned with African garb.

Taken collectively you can start to see the power of the current challenges to our democracy. If politicians continue to capitulate to the mob think the future will be bleak at the best. The death of the greatest country in world will soon follow.

The disruption is loud, angry, and intended to label any opposition as racist. That is their real power. With diatribes about race inequity and white privilege they have cowered our citizens with the fear of being labeled racist. Quieting opposition is a must for their revolution to continue. Opposition in fervor, volume and action is the only countermeasure.

If citizens don’t take up the battle to suppress the mob pressure and replace it with real and constructive ways forward the denigration of our way of life will be complete.
