Disgraceful, despicable and downright disgusting.
Indicting a former President on Racketeering Influenced Criminal Organization (RICO) along with eighteen others is stomach churning. RICO charges are generally employed against Mafia style organized crime families, major drug cartels, MS-13 and the like. Quite a stretch for DJT and the co-defendants,
It is clear that the DA Fani Willis in Atlanta is interested in maximum humiliation of former President Trump. Not only requiring a $200,000 Bond but insisting on an official mug shot, both of which are beyond the pale. To DJT’s credit and my personal dismay he allowed himself to be treated like a run of the mill miscreant. He is smarter than me because the resulting mugshot speaks loudly. The anger, determination and penetrating stare are palpable. The DA will rue the day as the historic photo will solidify the support for the former President.
$200,000 bond in the age of cashless bail is a 180 degree turn. Bail and bonds are employed to assure a defendants attendance in subsequent court appearances. Bail, nowadays, is further reserved for violent crimes. Is there really a concern that one of the most visible and followed persons on the face of the globe would not personally comply?. He has already proved to be responsive to court orders in the previous court cases. The bond is yet another humiliation tactic.
Media outlets and Social media is alive with the gallery of Fulton County Jail mugshots of Trump and the others embroiled in the hugely weak RICO indictment. The public reaction is palpable. If there was ever a doubt of the solidarity among his supporters the mugshot of President Trump it evaporated simultaneously with its release.
Staying clear of “what about isms” it is abundantly clear that there is a multi tiered justice system we are laboring under. You can build your own list of the cases that are clearly handled in a much different and deferential way.
Resisting further reference to third world banana republic treatment of political opponents the methods being employed all across the law enforcement landscape surely are reminiscent of corrupt governments. You don’t need to go any further than how Russia, China, North Korea and Iran to see how similar the treatment of opponents are. Disappearances, exiles, banishment are not uncommon. The justice system in the United States is running cover with the legal versions.
How far is the Congress going to allow the justice cesspool to perpetuate the obvious politicization of the application of the law. It is clear, whether or not you would vote one way or another, that the manipulation of the elections are now in the realm of the courtroom. Judges, District Attorneys and law enforcement agencies are out of control. The opposition to the rule of law, as the founders established, is gaining artful distortion of the application of justice.
It is time to think beyond individual victims and look toward how the republic will survive.
