Is Kamala Morphing?

Kamala is getting blacker and more left day by day?

Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris is amping up the retreat of her past and jumping into her new role as a black woman and openly progressive politician.

As the election gets closer she is jettisoning and skillfully deflecting all manner of her record.

One puff ball is that there is no mention by the media of her rise to political power in California with the very able help of her lover Willie Brown, a high-level power broker. Mr. Brown, many years her elder, is the foundation on which Kamala’s star began to rise in political circles. She was introduced to the right people and given an aurora of gravitas that was not yet earned.

Her personal heritage is taking the on the same dimensions of the Obama biographical mysteries. But in this case the salient points of Mrs. Harris being mixed Jamaican and Asian Indian and being a descendant of a slave owner are downplayed if mentioned at all. Having a Grandfather who owned slaves just weeks ago would have been enough to scuttle anyone else’s ambitions. Apparently not the same for a part black woman, a Democrat and progressive.

She ultimately won the District Attorney of San Francisco and then Attorney General of California seat and was a law and order prosecutor. She was tough on crime especially drug offenses. Her new position about policing is so very nuanced saying the country must "reimagine" law enforcement in high-crime communities… a dog whistle to predominately black areas. She goes further when asked about police presence. "I am very clear that we have got to, in America, reimagine how we are accomplishing public safety," .."If you go into any upper-class suburb in America, you will not see police presence, but what you will see are well-funded public schools, high rates of homeownership, [and] small businesses that have access to capital” again pandering to black communities who universally want more police to control crime in their neighborhood and not less.

"What I would say now is what I would say then, which is I want to make sure that if a woman is raped, a child is molested, or one human being murders another human being that there will be a police officer that responds to that case and that there will be accountability and consequences for the offender," Harris said. This while proposing to take money from policing and redirect it to social programs that have not worked in fifty years. Which is it Kamala? – police presence or after school youth program?

“We had over 200 years of slavery, we had Jim Crow for almost a century. We had legalized discrimination, segregation and now we have segregation and discrimination that is not legal but still exists and is a barrier to progress. We have disparities around housing. We have disparities around education. We have disparities around income. And we have to recognize that everybody did not start out on an equal footing in this country. And in particular black people have not.” Mrs. Harris cannot resist laying out the old tired indictments of America that reinforce the victimhood of African-Americans.

Politicians forget that they have history and it has footprints all over it. In her 2009 book Smart on Crime, in which she supported stronger policing in the streets and said it was a "myth" that poorer neighborhoods do not want more police in their area

Not to label Harris as a one-horse pony in terms of her blackness, she is also the most liberal Senator. In fact, her voting record is more severe than Bernie Sanders. She had endorsed a fracking ban during her 2020 Presidential primary run, stressing its dangers to the environment, and was an early cosponsor of the Green New Deal. As California's attorney general, she sued the Obama administration for permitting fracking off the Pacific Coast. But now that Joe Biden is tracking to center on some issues especially when courting the Pennsylvania vote and claims he will not ban the process Kamala is trying to catch up with him and deflects specific fracking questions.

She was a major voice in the Judge Kavanaugh hearings accusing him of unspeakable sexually repugnant behavior despite the thinnest of allegations and lack of evidence. Now she shares the ticket with someone notorious for his inappropriate touching and now facing a bonafide allegation from Tara Reade of an actual sexual assault. No fire, no fury, no support of an abused woman. What happened to her position that all women making such claims should be believed and afforded an opportunity to seek justice.

The former crime fighter is now a social justice warrior. She has gone as far as to propose that people donate to organizations that post bail for criminals. Now that the Biden-Harris team have finally taken to denouncing the rioting playing out across the country, because their previous silence on the issue was affecting the polls, she is trying to walk the tightrope between BLM support and street violence and the result is far from believable.

So much of Kamala Harris is manifested by the winds of change. The clarion call about her is her long history of changing as the situation, opportunity or ambitious challenge warranted. From her early public days in San Francisco she learned from her mentor and lover, Willie Brown, to leverage the political landscape to her advantage. She was a good student and now she is being tested if she can grab the brass ring of being one breath of a 79-year-old from ascending to the Oval Office.

Her blackness seems to negotiable.
