Dems Block Police Reform Bill

Look back historically and you will find that the majority of slavery supporters and opposition to any civil rights advances came from Democrats. The Democrat party had more than one member of the KKK in their ranks. In fact they opposed most of the early legislation that desired to improve the lot of African Americans and former slaves. More recently, even Joe Biden voiced disapproval of something as basic as school integration.

The saga continues. The Democrats have blocked a bill from Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, a black man. The vote was a simple procedural that would open the debate, discussion, and amendment process to the full Senate. Crying that the bill did not go far enough was the best Chuck Schumer could muster. Of course, it didn’t, that is why it needed to proceed.

With a straight face Schumer berated the Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for offering a fig leaf which gave the Republicans coverage but no had real substance. Visuals aside, the reality is the Chuck and Nancy cannot, and will not, do their job for the benefit of the country. They rather instead prevent any legislation that could be seen as positive under the Trump administration.

For their money, the country can go to hell in a hand basket for all they care. They are puppets to their agenda.

One would think that the members who so solemnly knelt wearing African grab in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter awakening sparked by the death of George Floyd would put themselves through the eye of a needle to produce at least a modicum of effort to answer the protesters and begin to calm the public.

Once again it is the Republican Party that wants to address the concerns of the black community only to be stopped by the Democrats.

The very same Democrats who came out of their office to demonstrate with the protesters. It is incomprehensible that these are one and the same.

The country is crying for action. The hypocrisy is palatable.

Killing the bill that was being presented affectively casts it into the waste basket. Senator Scott’s bill was called a “token.” That term all by itself shows the inherent prejudice just under the surface of Democrats. Token has always meant that an African American was used to give the appearance of diversity when in fact none existed. Tim Scott is a class act, but he was forced to call out the insult and derision coming at him from across the aisle.

For eight years the previous administration inflamed the race divide to such a point that it became worst than they had been for the twenty some odd years before. Advances had been made, relations were improving but the handling of situations that were out of bounds turned them incendiary. It is no surprise the temperature has reached a fever pitch. Granted that there have been unjustified deaths in the black community, but painting the entire law enforcement community with the systemic racist brush is unwarranted. Statistics and reality belay the talking points. However, a look at police departments is an opportunity to improve, not to capitulate.

The inability of the Democrats to come to the table will allow the hurt and unrest to continue. If it continues long enough the violence, rioting and looting will only escalate. They could by their malfeasance be lighting the fire of a new civil war.
