The church is under attack.
And the count grows……..
· New York City, St Patrick’s Cathedral desecrated by spray paint of vulgar words
· Chattanooga, TN Blessed Virgin Mary at the St. Stephen Catholic Church beheaded.
· Queens, New York, a statue of the Virgin Mother was desecrated with spray paint.
· Dorchester, MA a statue of the Virgin Mary was set on fire
· Ocala, Florida, crashes into Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ocala, FL sets fire.
· Statues of St. Junipero Serra desecrated in three California cities.
· Catholic mission of San Gabriel, a mission founded 249 years ago destroyed by fire
Where is the outrage. Crickets from the media. Are we now condoning, almost approving attacks on Christians (Jews are not far behind)?
The torrent of demands and attacks perpetrated by Black Lives Matter and Antifa, have placed a target on the Christian Church. Shaun King a left wing activist called for “all murals and stained glass windows of white Jesus, and his European mother, and their white friends” to come down. His claim, of course, their whiteness makes them white supremacists and racist.
Christ has been depicted in many forms and colors in various parts of the world and the Holy Mother has appeared before the world as African, Mexican, and European. Both are universal and the most inclusive icons around the globe. Mary has appeared all over the world, and according to those verified sightings, she appears looking like the culture she is visiting and speaking the language. In Mexico, Our Lady of Guadalupe had brown skin (photo above). In Rwanda, Our Lady in Kibeho, appeared the same as the indigenous people.
To propose that the Catholic Church is a white institution is preposterous. The congregations all over the world encompass ever ethnicity, nationality, and race. The doors are open to every soul on God’s earth.
The faith is nondiscriminatory and supports justice for all people. In fact, it is the faith of the black community that supports their families. Even in the light of so many fatherless homes the older faith filled parents and grandparents look to God for their strength. The playbook of BLM, Antifa and other such groups are biting the hand that would feed them if given a chance. Sadly, they are overrun by blind anger, irrational thought and violent tendencies.
Historically the Church has survived onslaughts and will prevail against the current enemy. Remember God said “the gates of hell will not prevail against my church.”
Keep faith, speak boldly in her defense. Stand guard to protect the churches, the priests and parishioners from danger.
