Obama Apologies and Accusations 2.0

Writer's picture: Virgil LassiterVirgil Lassiter

The recent weeks have felt very familiar to me. For eight years I heard President Obama apologize for what he saw as Americas short comings, why he saw the United States as just one more country of the world, how the USA had made mistakes in his eyes that he fervently regretted. I know, it was pretty nauseating at the time and there were quite a few times screaming at him on the television screen.

For almost two years now we have had the opportunity to see the United States through the eyes of someone who considers our country the very best there is in spite of the many wrong headed policies of the Obama administration. During this time the President has time and again refused to apologize for America being the leader of the free world. In fact he has made sure that the other world leaders clearly understand who is in the lead. Certainly there are detractors - Russia and Iran. North Korea for all of its bluster is recently making moves that make me hopeful for at the very least a lessing of the threat that was posed before Donald Trump took office.

Record numbers of people, from every diverse group, class and culture are experiencing the results of an economy that has not been this vigorous in almost twenty years. Sure the Democrats are trying to pedal the line that the recovery was set in place by Obama and that Trump is just capitalizing the work that was previously done. Nothing could be further from the truth. To denigrate the effect of the cuts Nancy Pelosi, said the records tax cuts resulted in "crumbs" to everyday citizens. She ignored the fact that hundreds of businesses shared the tax savings directly with their employees in the form of unsolicited bonuses. Metaphorically, those crumbs could make a whole pie.

So here we are approaching the mid term elections and the progressives, liberals, socialists and yes the more moderate Democrats are salivating because the history is on their side and they will regain control of Congress. Those tea leaves have yet to be read but their early lead against the generic ballot is now in question. That reality has caused them to harken back to the apologizes and accusations of just a few years ago under the Obama administration.

In just the last two weeks we have had Democrats disparage the country. Just a few examples that point to what will become a mantra the closer we get to November.

  • Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) lamented the “savagely wrong” state of America: “I’m a big believer that if America, if this country hasn’t broken your heart, then you don’t love her enough. Because there’s things that are savagely wrong in this country.”

  • Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) slammed America as “fundamentally immoral and wrong”: “I think that there is an understanding there is something fundamentally immoral and wrong about a nation in which we have three people who own more wealth than the bottom half of the American people.”

  • Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) called American law enforcement “racist…front to back”: “The hard truth about our criminal justice system: It’s racist…I mean front to back.”

  • Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) said, “We’re not going to make America great again. It was never that great.

Sound familiar to you? It could not be clearer that they have no real agenda. They have no real policies that would affect their warped views and turn them around. This rhetoric is merely and extension of the Trump Derangement Syndrome and the resist movement.

For two years the Democrats have lamented Donald Trump so convincingly beating them to win the Oval Office. And in spite of every effort to discredit, malign and depose him he has stood tall and called them out at every turn.

Lately, we hear he is not Presidential, not equipped for the office, he is a con man, a vaudeville act and worse. Yet, there is not retreat from his campaign promises, his policies and in fact the things he has said during his entire public life. Donald Trump is Donald Trump yesterday, today and tomorrow. He has an abundance of intestinal fortitude and can easily withstand all the assaults from the left.

Be brave America. We know the truth. We know the progress that has been made. We know where our President is trying to take us. We know that the future he sees is one where our country is safe, prosperous and fair to all. That is nothing to apologize for. The days of mea culpa are gone. America demands to be treated fairly, the giveaways are overs and new rules of how other countries will deal with the USA are firmly in place.

Once again we lead from the front. We speak up for our rights and claim the respect we deserve.
