Missing Trey
What a tough, smart, experienced, top shelf prosecutor in the person of Congressman Trey Gowdy.
The chairman of the House Oversight Committee is a force to behold. He single handedly made the case for political bias as presented by the Inspector Generals Report into the Hilary Clinton e-mail investigation. Even though the report refused to qualify the actions of Comey, Lynch, Mc Cabe, Strzok, Page or the others as influenced by bias Trey Gowdy painted Inspector Mike Horowitz into the corner where he had to admit that the statements, emails and text could be interpreted as such.
Congress will be so much less without Trey Gowdy in the ranks. It is inconceivable to me that this giant will be leaving Congress at the end of this term. I am not privy to the reasons of his departure other than what he has said about wanting to the return to his true love, the practice of law. “Whatever skills I may have are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress, and I enjoy our justice system more than our political system. As I look back on my career, it is the jobs that both seek and reward fairness that are most rewarding.” My inner sense is that he is so frustrated with the devolving ability of Congress to work together and get things done for the American people.
A man of such intestinal fortitude does have his limits and I believe that he has reached his. It is truly unfortunate for the country that such a strong voice will be absent soon. He is my “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.”
He is a smart politician. One who is capable of couching his arguments on facts and not agenda blindness. He will disagree with his colleagues of both parties when their rhetoric is not supported in fact.
The most recent example of his ability is his opening statement in the hearing focused on the IG report into the Clinton e-mail investigation, "These exact same FBI agents and attorney prejudged the outcome of the Russia investigation before it even began. If prejudging the outcome of an investigation before it ends and prejudging the outcome of an investigation before it begins is not evidence of outcome determinative bias, for the life of me I don't know what would be. That is textbook bias", Gowdy, directly challenged Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz's determination that the FBI's handling of the Hillary Clinton email and Russia investigations was not motivated by political bias.
I have worked for many prosecutors in my time. Some good, some really good but Trey Gowdy would rank in the top echelon of attorneys that would win cases with the evidence presented. Surely his approach is thorough and deliberate coupled with direct pointed and irrefutable facts. That is a winning combination in any courtroom.
Losing such a powerful voice in Congress is going to be major lose for the American people, especially in this time of political upheaval on all fronts. I fear that his leaving will cause irreparable damage to the process the country so sorely depends on.
Perhaps he will change his mind. Sorry that was wishful thinking.
