You can almost feel the pace picking up as President Obama, just days from leaving office, is trying frantically to dot some i’s and cross some t’s for his legacy before that day comes.
A quick review of his efforts in the last few days. His commutations and pardons are now the most of any President in history. He releases more terrorist detainees from Guantanamo and plans on more before he is done. He places new sanctions on Russia allegedly in response to their hacking. Threatens to be a vocal critic of a Trump administration if he doesn't like the way things are going. Reopens an effort to prosecute civil rights cold cases prior to the 1970. Puts a major nail in the coffin of what once a bedrock relationship with Israel, denies responsibility and now trots out John Kerry to try and justify it.
January 20th cannot come fast enough. No matter how fast this lame duck tries to run his legacy will still be a disaster.
The injustice of his last-minute actions shows the level of his arrogance, the depth of his agenda driven mentality and his lack of statesmanship. In his mind, he believes, and says, that he would have been reelected if he could run for a third term. Our 44th President is showing at this last stage the totality of his arrogance and hubris. His actions are not about what is good for the country, but what is good for an Obama legacy.
There is an adage about power corrupting and absolute power corrupting absolutely. Barack Obama is the epitome of that. For eight years, he has ruled (yes, I used “ruled” instead of governed) over America with a silver tongue, slick rhetoric (laced with convenient lies), executive orders and a certain swagger in his step.
He has, at times, been barely able to mask his true globalist position that the United States is merely another country in this world and that we should not stand for our own closely held values but embrace the views of others. He has embarked on fool’s ventures in the guise of leadership including the freeing terrorists, not crossing his self-drawn red line in Syria, the Russian reset, taking troops out of Iraq prematurely, standing by when Russia invaded Ukraine, protected millions of illegal aliens, opened our borders to potential terrorist-refugees for the Middle East, and most egregiously did not protect Israel in the United Nations.
For all his talk about transparency he has clamped the lid on exactly what he has been doing behind closed doors. There is another adage that says if more than one person knows something it is no longer a secret. He will need to hope that his lies are buried for years to come but if history tells us anything it is that the truth will always come out. I believe that the historians and presidential biographers will reveal many of those secrets and expose one of the most damaging administrations of all time.
