Government by spectacle.

Writer's picture: Virgil LassiterVirgil Lassiter

Well we have finally made the ultimate transition. Just as Barack Obama promised almost eight years ago. He has fundamentally transformed America into a third world country.

The spectacle, literally on the floor of Congress is not only mortifying and humiliating it is reminiscent of news clips that air showing disruptive behavior in governmental bodies in unsophisticated minor countries. To witness this sophomoric display in our House of Representatives is disheartening to put it very mildly.

I have been lamenting the lack of statesmen in our government for quite some time and this latest almost adolescent action by duly elected Democrats just proves my point. Which one of these so called leaders concocted and organized this "sit-in". I am sure it was a collective agreement pretty quickly and moved forward without much thought.

This sit-in is pure theatre with no substance. The alleged cause was the inability to vote on House bills about gun control that had already failed in the Senate. Is is a joint stamping of the feet of a petulant child and not something adults, let alone some of the top elected officials of the United States of America would participate in.

When the Obama's first came to office it was clear that they were not great fans of the American way of doing things. In fact the last eight years have had both the President and his wife issuing a litany of apologizes for the country on a host of issues. Do you happen to remember Michelle, in the very early days of the administration, saying (and I paraphrase)

"[F]or the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country." What was wrong with America before she came on the scene? "People are hungry for change" she continued.

Well yes that is always true but I don't think that the people wanted this type of change.

We have watched over eight years the downward spiral that has taken place. Today's outrageous spectacle is a mere exclamation point or marker, if you will, on the decent to the bottom.

I could believe these antics in the third world but not in my country. Clearly this is one of the reasons, or at least symptoms, that have had the citizens crying for relief from career politicians.
